70. Five misconceptions about Personal Branding Photo-shoots

Most people dread being photographed. People are not doing this on a regular basis, most people wait until their photos are completely outdated before they decide to renew them.

If you wonder what exactly is Personal Branding you can read this article here:

If you want to know about the different types of photo-shoots that I offer and if a Personal Branding photo-shoot is right for you,you can read this article here:

A Personal Branding photoshoot doesn’t have to be so traumatic!

Really, there are quite a few misconceptions which I will explain below:

1.You need to know how to be comfortable in front of the camera to be authentic

Eeeehhh no! That’s what I am here for!  I work with you to help you feel at ease and comfortable in front of the camera, so that your photos can reflect the authentic you.

Most clients come to me feeling very self conscious and “unsure” on what to do.  They often tell me how they are not photogenic or tell me: “I don’t know what I need to do”.   It’s Ok, don’t worry, because I do.  Here is what a customer of mine says:

Testimonial - Julia Harig:

“Blanca is a fantastic photographer. I hate being photographed, and I like seeing myself in photos even less. Blanca has the most natural way of putting you at ease and getting you to be your real self in front of the camera. Her photos really reflect me and my personality. I can't recommend her enough!”

2.You need a new wardrobe

It is true that Personal Branding photos require us to plan the shoot and yes, take into consideration the outfits that will be used.  But a whole wardrobe, no.  We often find alternative and Shirts, blouses, pants, shoes, scarves, sakkos, hats and props that help us bring in the brand colors into the images to help increase the brand recognition, but without having to spend a lot.

Some clients decide to invest in key pieces of clothing which they intent in using consistently in their images and communication to support their brand recognition.  It is nice to have, but not a MUST.

3.You need to loose weight

You are ready for your photos as you are.  There will never be the “right time”, the “right weight”, the “right time of the year”.  The right time is now.  Keep postponing investing in yourself and your brand.

My job is to make you look your best.  I will work with you to pose in a way that makes it flattering to you.  During our pre-consult session, we will discuss also your outfits and things that make you look your best.

4.You need to know exactly what you want

Well, yes and no.   Let me explain.  Yes, in the end you will need to decide on what you want.  However, more often than not, clients come to me with a general idea of “I need business photos”.  During our pre-consult session, it is my job to help you clarify your needs.  I will ask you the right questions, I will give different alternatives, we will discuss about what you want to communicate and with whom.

This discussion will help you clarify the type of images that you need for your Personal Brand.

5.They are only for Business Owners

Not true.  It is true that Business Owners, specially if they are solopreneurs or own a business in which their face, their image is the face of the company, they are in serious need of highly professional images to fill their photo needs in website, print and social media.

However, executives and managers shouldn’t neglect the development of their own Personal Brand.  Your Personal Brand is your asset, but so it is for your company as well.  The more credibility and presence that your Personal Brand has, the more it will benefit your interactions within the company and with external partners.
